Some Pictures from Sandy Hook National Seashore

Taken in December, 1996

Here is a Composite photograph of one of the old fortifications in Fort Hancock at the end of Sand Hook. I believe this is "Battery Grainger".

Here is a Composite photograph of a pond at the end of Sandy Hook. It was an increadibly clear day. The Verazzano Narrows bridge is quite clear at the left, and the World Trade Center towers are visible behind Brooklyn. Conney Island Island visible near the center of the picture (if you know exactly what to look for, you can pick out the Parachute Drop tower). Later in the day we climbed an observation platform (you can see it behind the fort in the picture above) and were able to pick out the Stature of Liberty with our binoculars.

As we were walking around the end of Sandy Hook, we cam across this boat "sailing" along in the sand. It was only after we had walked past it that the name on the transom became visible.
Most of the hardware had been removed. We did notice that the head (which was fairly accessable and undamaged) was still there. I guess marine sanitary devices just don't have much resale value!
