Sailing on Grass Lake, Dec. 1, 2002:

After checking Lake Wingra in Madison, and finding only 2 inches of ice, Dean Lima and I drove down to Milton and checked Grass Lake.  Grass Lake is a small (70 acre), shallow (3 feet) lake.  We found a pretty consistent 3 inches of black ice and decided to try some sailing.  We had tried sailing on Grass Lake a couple of years ago, but the wind didn't cooperate then.  For awhile today it looked like we would be 0:2, but the wind picked up and we got a number of pretty nice rides.  I even spun the boat out once going down wind!
